Turmeric is a native of India, known as the "Golden Spice" where is used as an overall healing plant. Turmeric has been used for thousands of years for its healthy medicinal benefits and in specific dishes.
Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin. This compound is known to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and it is used to treat joint inflammation, osteoarthritis, heart problems, cognitive health, digestive health, hay fever, depression, high cholesterol, liver diseases, itching and to boost the immune system.
Turmeric has a warm, bitter taste and it is used in Eastern Asian cuisine as a colorant for butters, curry powders, mustards and some cheeses.
Turmeric is mostly used in form of powder but also fresh.
A tea made of Turmeric root and ginger root can aid in digestion and also the liver.
I personally like to make Golden Milk - it has a overall healing benefit.
- loss of appetite
- irritable bowel syndrome
- skin inflammation
- Crohn's disease
- intestinal gas just to name few uses and benefits
How to make Golden Milk
In a pot mix the following ingredients:
- ground turmeric
- a milk of your choice: either coconut, almonds, soy milk etc...
- ground fresh pepper
- ground Cardamon
- ground cinnamon
- ground ginger
- fresh honey (if desired)
- one drop of Vanilla extract
Heat on a medium heat for about 10 minutes, stir constantly, then turn off the stove, pour into a cup and enjoy.
I like to have mine in the evenings mostly, for a better night sleep and to aid with any of the above mentioned issues.
